Love for Sale

Been listening to Miles Davis again. For the past few weeks my nights had not been complete without his “Love for Sale”. Lovely. What makes Miles Davis stand out from the other trumpeteers is the way he extended and played with the possibilities of sound. He could make his trumpet whimper. He could produce violent sheets of sound. He could make it talk in so many ways unimaginable. And amazingly, he did all these with restraint. He did not give it all, though to us it seems like he gave much. He did not grandstand – yun naman talaga ang essence ng pagiging part ng banda, chamber, orchestra etc. You exist not only for yourself but more importantly for the other members who play with you. In any craft naman hindi nakakatuwa pag overkill. The beauty with any art form, mapa- music man, visual arts or sa writing, is the ability to control your medium wisely and with ease. Kaya sa musiko, maganda pa rin talaga pag hindi nagsasapawan.
